The Unexpected Guests

Coming November 27, 2010 from Mojocastle Press.... Just Another Paranormal Christmas

My story, "The Unexpected Guests," will be featured in this anthology's pages. This anthology will be benefiting the Armed Forces Children Education Fund, Inc. Find out more about this organization at http://www.afcef.org/. Kayden McLeod, author of Deadly Fetishes, will also be in this anthology. Read about her story here.

Damian’s Christmas party is the last place Sarah ever thought she’d find trouble…

Werewolf Sarah Vargas returns to South Carolina to attend a Christmas party thrown by Damian, born vampire and Lord of Charleston. She quickly discovers that The Council - an elite group of vampires - are attending. They are bringing with them two members of the Du'Rah, the vampire's elders. The Du'Rah are pretending to attend Damian's party so that they can initiate him into their ranks, however they have a more sinister plan. Will Sarah be able to save Damian from the true death and still celebrate the holiday season?

“Not only is it an honor to have the Du’Rah attend Damian’s event, it’s a danger,” T.D. said. She had sat upright on the bed and had her hand resting on the butt of her gun.

“Damian told me what happened at the last party they attended,” Sarah said. “No survivors.”

“They don’t attend parties to have a good time,” T.D. said. “They do it to take out competition.”

Jared and Sarah turned towards the witch. “What?”

T.D. nodded. “To become a Du’Rah is a very high honor, one gained only through age. There is no task to complete. You could live in a cave your whole life and still get inducted into the Du’Rah. They attend the galas of those chosen for the honor, and then find a reason to be displeased with them. The music wasn’t right. They didn’t have a Du’Rah’s favorite blood. The costumes offended a member. With displeasure comes death.”

“Then why are they attending Damian’s Christmas party?” asked Jared. “I mean, yes he was alive when Rome fell but there has to be vamps older than that.”

“There are,” said T.D. after a moment. “But Damian’s an interesting creature. He wasn’t born during Roman times Jared. Not only has he been a vampire longer than you can fathom, but he was born into vampirism. He has known no other life. The Du’Rah must feel threatened by this.”
“He’s been chosen to become a Du’Rah,” stated Sarah.

“We might as well been given a death sentence.”

New Sarah Vargas story

I've just recieved word that my Sarah Vargas short story, "The Unexpected Guests," will be in the Just Another Paranormal Christmas anthology!

From Just Another Paranormal Monday:
The Christmas Anthology will be benefitting The ARMED FORCES CHILDREN’S EDUCATION FUND, Inc. (AFCEF) -- http://www.afcef.com as our charity. This fund was established on May 1, 2003, the first day of National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM).

The purpose of the non-profit corporation is to be able to financially assist the educational needs of the surviving children of the U.S. Military men and women who lost their lives on or after October 7, 2001, the commencement of Afghanistan operations, as part of the global war on terrorism defined as "Operation Enduring Freedom".

Regardless of our stance on war or our political opinions and views I feel that we, as authors, have something special that we can offer these surviving children. We are more than just mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. Through our writing we build dreams, inspire hope and create worlds where all of life’s possibilities are within our readers grasp – they just need to turn the page. We are the teachers and dream-makers of tomorrow. What better way to give back than to give a future of learning – a future of becoming everything they could ever hope to be; become everything their parents would have wanted them to be, despite the difficult paths they have walked.

Through this anthology and its PG-13 Christmas stories we have the opportunity to create worlds that inspire those dreams and help give a small part of ourselves that may make a difference in a child’s life.

This anthology is due out in late November. This short story takes place some time after the events in Blood Moon, however I consider it stand alone. I hope you purchase this anthology; it's for a wonderful cause.

Fantastic review for Malevolent Dead

I was on my Twitter account this morning and decided to do a search for Malevolent Dead. The point of the search was to see if All Romance Ebooks had tweeted my book release or not, but what I found was so much better.

Happily Ever After Reviews reviewed Malevolent Dead, rating it 4.5 Teacups! "I would love to say more, but I can’t without giving away some major plot points. Malevolent Dead is an awesome adventure with kick-butt action, hot sexual encounters, and interesting characters."

Supernatural Bad Boys - The Ultimate Thrill

Supernatural Bad Boys - The Ultimate Thrill
September Guest Blog by Roxanne Rhoads

I think most women are programmed to be attracted to the bad boy, the broken boy, the dangerous boy- and who portrays the bad boy better than a supernatural boy?
Supernatural bad boys give a danger craving lady the thrill of a lifetime. They are the epitome of the bad boy stereotype with the added bonus real danger, supernatural strength and paranormal powers.
Plus they may have lived for a really long time so some girls may get their daddy issues covered along with that craving for the bad boy because let’s face it a guy that’s lived for decades, centuries possibly, should have infinite wisdom and the extreme added bonus of really knowing how to please to a woman sexually.

If he doesn’t after all that time then he’s an idiot. If he’s a vampire someone should stake him. Immediately. That way no other woman falls prey to the possibility of a paranormal paramour with promises of passion and pleasure only to be disappointed.

We get enough of that in real life.

That’s why we love our paranormal romances and urban fantasy books so much. The men are gorgeous, strong, dangerous and delicious. And they want us- normal, plain, human woman that finally can light that spark inside them that’s been missing for so long.

We get to fix their brokenness, tame their bad boy ways, all while being swooped up into supernaturally strong, muscle bulging arms and carried off to beds where we are shown unimaginable pleasure than no mere mortal could ever offer.

Ultimate fantasy right?
Seems so for many of us right now. Nothing’s hotter than supernatural sex with the ultimate bad boys.

I know I can’t get enough. I love to read about the paranormal hotties as well as write about them.

My September release A Halloween to Remember (eXcessica Sept 6) features Adena, a young woman hoping to someday meet the man of her dreams. When she encounters Dimitri at her friend Chrissy’s wild Halloween party she doesn’t believe she has a ghost of a chance with him until they get to know each other a little better and Adena realizes he may be the man she’s been hoping for. Too bad the next morning Adena wakes up alone- in the small cemetery behind the house. Halloween magic brought them together but will it be strong enough to keep them together?

It’s a fun filled paranormal erotic romance- heavy on the erotic. No vampires but there’s plenty of magick in the air.
If vampires are what you crave my novella Eternal Desire (Eternal Press) is set in New Orleans during Halloween. LizBeth, a paranormal researcher, is searching for the shadowy vampire that haunts her dreams. Instead of finding him she encounters a handsome stranger that may finally be the one man that can take her mind off the vampire. As Halloween grows closer LizBeth finds herself torn between a shadow and a stranger not knowing who to choose. The magic of Halloween may help her decide once the clock strikes midnight and spirits walk freely in the flesh.

I’m offering one lucky winner a pdf of both A Halloween to Remember and Eternal Desire - just a comment telling me who your favorite supernatural bad boy of all time is.

Praise for Eternal Desire:

After reading Eternal Desire, I would have to call Roxanne Rhoads a master of words. Each sentence flowed into another with a nice blend of old elegance and contemporary style… ~review by author Kiki Howell

Ms. Rhoads is an artist with words. She very tastefully wove the romance with the love scenes making the reader feel as if true romance and chivalry were still here… ~review by Bertena Varney

Eternal Desire won second place in The Pen and Muse’s 2010 Short Story Competition
