....but I liked the movies

When I'm not writing, I love to read. I'll read just about anything, as long as it hooks me within the first 50 pages or so. Sometimes I'm a bad reader, and I'll watch the movie version before reading the book (bad Heather!). This is the case for The Lord of the Rings. I read The Hobbit in middle school. It was okay. I didn't absolutely love it, but I didn't hate it either. Upon completion, the rest of Tolkien's books went onto my "to be read" list, and have sat there for almost two decades. Then, around 2001, the movies hit theaters and I was in love. They were so good! The books must be just as good... no! Better! They had to be amazing for Peter Jackson to have created that. So, I bought the book, opened it, and....

I was not impressed.

50 pages in I put it back on my shelf and moved onto something else.

I was disappointed. I think I expected too much. I had trouble with Tolkien's writing style and it seemed to take an eternity to get through just one chapter.

Then, early last year, I read the entire Narnia series. The writing styles were very similar (after all, Lewis was BFFs with Tolkien). I told myself, if I could read the Chronicles of Narnia, then I could finish The Lord of the Rings.

So in May of last year, I tried again. This time I finished The Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers, but I stopped at Return of the King. While I was not enjoying the books, it still seemed to take forever to read.

I just started Return of the King. I'm looking forward to finishing the series and maybe, one day, reading more of what Tolkien has to offer.

The point to this post (yes, there is a point), is that sometimes it is okay to like the movies more than the books. Not every book is for every one. Tolkien has been a chore for me to read, but I am proud to be able to mark it off my Bucket List of books.

New Website

I am starting to phase out everything with my former name on in, including my website. While heatherkuehl.com will still be active over the next couple of years (or until all my work is changed over), my new website is

Slowly, starting with my new work and any releases of my older work, I'm changing my name. Heather Kuehl was my former married name and after my divorce several years ago I'd rather not have to look at it any more. Any new work I have will be under Heather Dade; it's easier to spell and much easier to say. LoL

Update

Yesterday I let you all know that I was asking for my rights back on my earlier works. Today I got the paperwork confirming my request. While I am happy about this, I am sadden to report that Eternal Press also returned the rights for Forbidden Magic. As of right now, I am back to square one with this book and will be working to find it a new home.

I'm not sure how much longer Fade to Black, Malevolent Dead, Blood Moon, and Promises to Keep will be available for sale online, so get your copies now while you can!
